What is an ESOS Lead Assessor?

If you are required to comply with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme, you will need to appoint an ESOS Lead Assessor.

Lead Assessors must belong to a professional body register in order to authorise your ESOS audit. The Environment Agency has a list of approved registers, which can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/energy-savings-opportunity-scheme-esos

The Lead Assessor’s primary responsibility is to carry out your energy audits and review your overall ESOS assessment.

Your appointed Lead Assessor will also complete other auditing tasks, which may include:

  • Display Energy Certificate assessments
  • Green Deal assessments
  • Identifying energy or cost saving opportunities
  • Calculating your energy use profile
  • Maintaining an ESOS Evidence Pack

A competent ESOS Lead Assessor must demonstrate that they have fulfilled the requirements of PAS 51214:2014. They should have an in-depth understanding of all the technical and non-technical skills required for the role, such as relevant industry knowledge, qualifications in energy auditing and experience communicating with stakeholders.

Working with an experienced partner can be the difference between simply meeting the minimum ESOS standards, and getting the most out of your energy and cost saving recommendations. Carbon Numbers has an approved and fully qualified Lead Assessor that can cater for all your ESOS requirements.
